SNOW AND SLATE • Went for a short two mile run in snowy Snowdonia to shake my legs back to life after Gloucester Marathon. • Legs felt strong but the views and running up the base of Snowdon meant that it was probably the slowest two mile run I’ve ever done! • This area truly is my happy place. • • #runnersofinstagram #runningmotivation #supportinsport #runningismytherapy #snowdonia #snowdonianationalpark #snowdoniagram #igrunners #igrunner #runnerscommunity #ukrunchat #runhappy #instarun #trailrunning #trailrunner #ultramarathontraining

Always Forward... • As I said in the last post yesterday’s PB at the Gloucester Marathon was a complete shock. BUT WHY? • Its because I honestly expected the marathon to be f**king miserable: a combination of mental arguments and tired legs as I lumbered my way to the finish line. • I had spent the two weeks in the lead up struggling to run, being knackered out from moving house, struggling a bit mentally and spent the day before the race walking around far too much at the @nationalrunningshow. I even said to my friend the day before that I didn’t want to even run this race, something I’ve only ever said once before. • The PB happened because I divided it into bite size chucks, getting over a few hills rather than one mountain which was helped by the fact it was multi loop race. • On every loop I thought about something positive which helped battle the negativity that stalked just behind me. RING THAT MOTHER TRUCKING PB BELL!!! • Cannot believe I managed to do that, it was not on my mind at all before the race or really until mile 20 when I did the maths and realised it could happen. • My Strava says 4:27:08 which is a PB by well over a minute. RUNNING SHOW • Absolutely loved today at the @nationalrunningshow, got to see some cool new products and listen to some great speakers BUT the best part about the Running Show for me was meeting up with so many of you fantastic and inspiring people. • I’d be here forever if I tried to name all of the cracking people I bumped into today but I want to say thank you for so many of your kind and motivating words. BACK ON TRACK • As I said in my last post I’ve been struggling with training over the past week, with the move and other things. But what I didn’t say was that I’ve been really struggling with running itself. • I would run for a few km and then it would feel like there was just no energy left inside me which resulted in me walking. I’d also feel tightening in my calves and other random places. I knew deep down nothing was seriously wrong physically but something definitely was not right. • I figured out today that this was being caused by my shadowed squatter. All the changes going on and the fact that Marathon des Sables is getting ever nearer had triggered a depression fuelled downward spiral. Knowing it was all in my head I spent today’s run keeping psych myself up. Putting myself in a good head space by thinking of past runs and the excitement of what’s to come rather than the fear of it. • I ended up running the entire 10K, which should not be a huge feat for me at this stage of my running but it felt monumental.
